Situation Analysis
In June 2005, the project managers for the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Traceability and Integrated Farm Management project, commissioned a Situation Analysis report that would examine the livestock traceability situation in New Zealand, and compare it to the situation overseas.
Completed in August 2005, the report:
- Defines a common terminology for discussing traceability systems;
- Surveys and compares livestock traceability systems around the world;
- Explores consumer and market perspectives about traceability;
- Details technologies that are available today for implementing such systems;
- Illustrates the critical importance of traceability in the production of niche nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products, through biopharming.
The report was prepared by authors from Massey University, Leith Pemberton and Associates, Rezare Systems, and AgResearch.
