NZTE Integrated Farm Management and Traceability Project
Context
New Zealand agricultural producers and marketers face new food safety, regulatory and bio-security challenges. The Traceability and Integrated Farm Management Project seeks to mitigate these potential threats to our agricultural sector, while providing opportunities for New Zealand bio-tech and ICT companies with export ambitions.
The project is managed on behalf of its major sponsor, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, by Innovation Waikato Limited and Medialab Limited.
Dairy Cow ElectronicMonitoring Report
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (‘NZTE’) have released a report studying the economic advantages to New Zealand dairy farmers of extensive electronic monitoring of dairy cows. The report was authored by Colin Kingston (Director, Business Development) and Rod Claycomb (Chief Executive), Sensortec Limited.

In September 2005, the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Traceability and Integrated Farm Management project completed a review of key New Zealand that have some traceability function. The goal of the review was to identify databases that may participate in or integrate with a national traceability solution for livestock.

In June 2005, the project managers for the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Traceability and Integrated Farm Management project, commissioned a Situation Analysis report that would examine the livestock traceability situation in New Zealand, and compare it to the situation overseas.

Thirty-eight people – representatives of government, regulatory, industry and commercial entities operating across New Zealand in the agricultural sector - gathered at the Narrows Landing south of Hamilton on April 7th, 2005. We participated in a collaborative workshop to accelerate our common understanding of integrated farm management and traceability opportunities, with the objective of developing buy-in for a way forward.
