Traceability Database Review
In July 2005, the project managers for the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Traceability and Integrated Farm Management project, commissioned a review of current New Zealand databases that have some traceability function. The goal of the review was to identify databases that may participate in or integrate with a national traceability solution for livestock.
Completed in September 2005, the review examines four key databases and a veterinary system designed for traceability. It identifies the main entities stored in each database, and compares identification systems used for flocks, herds, farms, and animals in each.
A goal of the review is also to identify the options that each database has for interconnection and connectivity, and for further development or expansion.
The report was prepared by authors from Massey University and Wintec (the Waikato Institute of Technology).
