News > Identification and Traceability PresentationsNZBio and bioSouth jointly held a special interest group session with a focus on identification and traceability technologies. The event was held in association with the NZBio annual general meeting in Dunedin. NZBio is an incorporated society representing the New Zealand biotechnology sector. The bioSouth cluster is a network of Dunedin Biotechnology and related entities whose aim is to generate more wealth for the region from Biotechnology. Andrew Cooke from Rezare Systems commenced a series of presentations by Waikato AgBio cluster members. In his session about “Leveraging traceability for profitable dairying”, Mr Cooke described how the Waikato Innovation Park and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise were demonstrating that traceability technologies and ICT could be used to increase productivity, reduce costs such as animal health, staff time, and energy, and make dairy farming more profitable. The project, managed by Rezare Systems, takes place on the Richmond Downs dairy farm of David and Raewyn Bennett, and involves a number of New Zealand technology companies and dairy organisations. Further information is available here, and the slides from Mr Cooke’s presentation are available on request. The Rezare Systems presentation was followed by Craig Purcell of Livestock Improvement Corporation, who explained how LIC could reduce the compliance burden of a national traceability scheme by integrating with existing and new value-added services. Another Hamilton presenter, Peter Tait from TCS (NZ) Ltd demonstrated the use of radio frequency tags with distributed, intelligent sensors to enhance supply chains in the meat processing industry.
